The Society of the Golden Rule

The Invitation
This website is an invitation to those who believe we are fully capable of living in harmony with each other and nature when we adopt the social architecture of the Golden Rule.  When we assemble and integrate the social innovations we need to create the paradigm shifting society in which we live the Golden Rule, we shall co-create a sustainable and just abundance based on our active (not passive) consent with a currency we issue in proper proportion so that everything worthwhile may be funded.  In the Culture we shall co-create, we are Free, at Liberty, to pursue Truth, Beauty and Goodness, the true source of happiness.  Our Governance is Just and our Economy is a collaborative Community.  Our commitment is Do No Harm, and we agree to participate in adjudicating harm with randomly selected Juries of our Peers.

Our PURPOSE or AIM (The Why)
Our Purpose is to Co-Create the Society of the Golden Rule.

Our VISION (What We Envision)
We are living the promise of the Declaration of Independence - our Life is secure, with an equitable distribution of a dividend income from the economy we contribute to and the right to the capital our capacities warrant so that we are at Liberty to Pursue the Happiness that results from discovering and manifesting our life’s purpose.

We are living The Golden Rule - the rights and life circumstances I desire for myself I desire for everyone and the rights and life circumstances everyone desires for themselves they also desire for me. The Justice of our governance is our active, not passive, consent so that everything is a voluntary initiative of conscientious people collaborating to assure the individual is free, our society is just, and we collaborate to provide each other with everything we need and desire.

As such, in the Culture, we are Free, at Liberty, to pursue Truth, Beauty and Goodness, the true source of happiness.  Our Governance is Just and our Economy is a collaborative Community.  Our commitment is Do No Harm, and we agree to participate in adjudicating harm with randomly selected Juries of our Peers.

We have restored the Commons; land, labor, and capital can no longer be bought nor sold. We each have a right to the land we can use productively.  Our activities are based on voluntary initiatives and collaborations.  Instead of wages, we each have a right to the dividend income from the value we all create together in the enterprises we participate in and we have a right to the capital - the means of production - that our capacities warrant.
We have a genuinely free market in which value for value trades benefit both parties.  Exchanges are fully transparent because we have a reliable and just monetary system.

We acknowledge and appreciate the differences between us as individuals and respect our common dignity.
We bring the culture, the governance, and the economy into the realm of our healthy, heart centered, judgement.

Our MISSION (The How)
Revendicate the Promise of the Declaration of Independence by recognizing that we are in a course of events that requires us to separate ourselves from the coercion, extraction, consumerism, debt, and corruption all around us.

Declare these as the causes that impel us to the separation.

Recognize that Psychopaths, Machiavellians, and Pathological Narcississts have succeeded in privatizing land, labor, and capital, creating the wealth discrepancy that plagues humanity. When the mega corporations are analysed from a mental health perspective, they are demonstrably judged psychopathic given their sole concern with profits. The too big to fail and too big to jail mega banks that fund them are ultimately in charge.

Establish governance to protect our unalienable rights and to adjudicate and remediate harm.

Bring the culture, the governance, and the economy into the realm of our healthy, heart centered judgement based on a system of dynamic governance and consent-based decision-making called Sociocracy.

Restore the Commons so that land, labor, and capital can no longer be bought nor sold.

Establish that we each have a right to the land we can use productively. Establish that all activities are a result of entirely voluntary initiatives and collaborations.  Instead of wages, we each have a right to the dividend income from the value we all create together from the enterprises in which we participate. And we have a right to the capital - the means of production - that our capacities warrant.

Establish a genuinely free market in which value for value trades that benefit both parties are based on a fully transparent, reliable, and just monetary system, using a complementary currency system called UNIEX.

Acknowledge, respect, and appreciate the significance of the differences between us as individuals and the common dignity of our human condition - as tenets of The Golden Rule.

Explanatory Remarks and Concluding Statements
We shall manifest our purpose and our vision when we get together with colleagues to create a community in which the Golden Rule is the operative principle.  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. This is the moral injunction we are familiar with, and the Golden Rule may also be expressed as an organizing principle in the following statement:  The social conditions I desire for myself I desire for everyone, and the social conditions everyone desires for themselves they also desire for me.

The Golden Rule is not naive. It is the most demanding ethical standard ever articulated because it closes every loophole that self-interest tries to exploit. For example, wanting private monopoly for oneself becomes incoherent because it does not apply to everyone. You cannot desire freedom from coercion for yourself while tolerating coercion of others. The Golden Rule, taken seriously, is a complete social philosophy.

It does require a thorough re-evaluation of human nature and our social relations, which we may do simply by asking ourselves:  What would WE do to solve this or that aspect of the dystopia?  How shall WE govern ourselves?  How shall WE create a truly voluntary society in which the individual is free to pursue the purposes they choose to dedicate their life to accomplishing?

Our founding principle does not give our governance a power that the individual does not have.  In other words, we do not give the government the responsibility to regulate our behavior.   While we see ourselves creating the ways of being together that serve our individual aspirations, we also agree that if everything is a voluntary initiative, there must be a way to recognize harm and remedy it.  The venerable tradition, going all the way back to the Magna Carta, is the jury. The Grand Jury is chosen at random to hear complaints of harm and determine whether a “true bill” (an indictment) is to be issued.  Does the affidavit alleging harm rise to the level that requires a presentment and a trial by a jury of one's peers or is it something that can be handled by mediation or arbitration?  The Grand Jury does not “try the case”, it only determines what is necessary for justice to be served.  If a trial is deemed necessary, then an indictment is issued against an individual or a presentment to a company or group.  The Petit Jury is tasked with determining the facts and then recommending how to remediate the harm done.  Mostly we expect Juries to recommend Distributive Justice and Restorative Justice rather than punitive justice – only psychopaths need to be locked up.  The only time coercion is required in the Society of the Golden Rule is when a fugitive needs to be brought to trial.  In which case a Grand Jury may empower a self-organizing posse, or other means to apprehend the fugitive.  There is no need for a police force in the Golden Rule Society, but there is a need for vigilance on the part of everyone, and the willingness to address the causes of harm and remedy them.

Most of our governance is getting together to accomplish something that we agree would be good with the people who have a similar interest and the requisite talents and skills.  We must be able to issue the money we need to accomplish our purpose, to build the infrastructure needed and provide the working capital, and we must agree how to distribute the dividend.  Each member of the enterprise is responsible for their part in the organization, the role they choose that they are most suited to perform, with the mindset of a co-owner.  This aspect of the Golden Rule Society requires that we all learn how to understand the effect of our work on the overall profitability of our enterprise by learning how to create the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows from the bottom up.  This is well described in The Great Game of Business by Jack Stack, known as Open Book Management in which everyone learns to think like an owner and aims to provide an excellent product or service each owner is proud of and contributes to creating.  There are no wages, only an appropriate dividend from the profits.  This is how we create and distribute enduring wealth.  Our wealth, our abundance, is not in the amount of money in our bank account because money only measures the value of our wealth, it is not the wealth itself.  Our wealth is in our homes, means of production, the infrastructure we build and in our culture, our governance, and our economy. The social innovations we use and develop further are Sociocracy for our governance and the Revere for our currency, provided with the technology of the Uniex Bank and the Sustainable Communities Framework.

Sociocracy is well represented by Sociocracy for All, which offers training and a community of support, and a number of instructional videos, books, events and conferences.  We will each need to become proficient with consent based governing and circle organizing.  The main books are:  Many Voices, One Song, Shared Power with Sociocracy and Who Decides Who Decides? How to Start a Group So Everyone Can Have a Voice.  The website is: https://sociocracyforall.org  Here is an enthusiast’s opinion regarding the significance of Sociocracy:   “Humanity is undergoing a species level rite of passage. We can choose to disagree on how to address the problems of climate change, cascading ecosystems collapse, obscene levels of inequality, etc., or we can manifest our evolutionary potential and mature into new ways of collaboration for the common good of people and planet. This will happen place by place, community by community, bioregion by bioregion. It requires paying attention to the biocultural uniqueness of places and people. We are capable of moving from a culturally dominant story of competitive scarcity to co-creating a world of collaborative aam bundance and in the process heal the Earth and her people. In order to do so we need to work on inclusion, participation and collaborative decision making. Sociocracy offers effective ways to accomplish just that. Ted Rau’s book makes its practice and processes easy to understand and apply for any group ready to step into the adventure of co-creating diverse regenerative cultures everywhere.” - Daniel Christian Wahl, Author, Speaker, Advisor The Revere, the currency we issue and regulate, is provided by the UniexBank.  The Sustainable Communities Foundation has developed a software system that allows us to exchange dollars for Revere and receive a bonus percentage for more Revere than the dollars.  This means that the system will succeed and expand rapidly when we have plenty of places to spend Revere.  It includes an online WooCommerce Marketplace similar to Craigslist, Etsy, and eBay, with online payment in Revere.

Because Reveres are not exchangeable back to dollars, there is no need for fees.  The dollar pool that results from exchanging dollars for Revere is available to pay for what the system needs that is not yet available in Revere as well as to fund what Uniex communities agree is good.  The essence of the Uniex Bank is that we decide what to fund, including what the bonuses shall be, and we decide who decides.

The essence of our Mission is that we decide who decides what to issue money for, and how to empower everyone to become their best self.  Our premise is that as we become conversant with consent-based decision-making and circle organizing, we will develop increasing confidence that each of us may issue the Revere we need to capitalize our capacity to contribute to the Common Good.

There are two websites for understanding the currency aspect of the Golden Rule society, the Uniex Bank site:  https://uniex.net and the Sustainable Communities Framework at https://scf.green both of which overlap and are well worth spending time on. The Unity Team, John G Root Jr, Margaret Arndt, Michele Cunningham
